Description
I found myself visiting the beach one winter morning. It was obviously low tide. The channel marking bouy seems precariously close to the shore. Perhaps there's a quick drop hidden beneath the water. Maybe the marker has drug its anchor too close to the sand. With the every shifting sands of the Beaufort Inlet, the channel could be filling in. There is no way to tell while simply walking along the ocean's edge.
This is the view at Fort Macon State Park on that January morning. Warm color still fills the sky from the day's sunrise. The beach is nearly empty this time of the year. Free from beachcombers sunbathers, surf fishermen and other recreational visitors. Such is the Crystal Coast on an off-season morn.
