Artist's Description
The KIlldeer, Charadrius vociferus, is a large plover found both along the coast and inland locations. This wild bird was feeding in the shallow water at low tide. While often thought of as a shorebird, they can be seen in pastures and fields in inland locations. Their nests are almost always built near shallow water where chicks can feed easily.. Killdeer are year round residents in the Carolinas.
Cedar Island is located in eastern Carteret County and is part of the Crystal Coast. Traditionally a fishing village the other main employer is the NC Ferry System. There is a terminal on the island which carries travelers across Pamlico Sound to Ocracoke and the Outer Banks.
About Bob Decker

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
