Artist's Description
A lovely summer view of Island Creek from the hiking trail of the same name in the Croatan National Forest. This popular spot for eastern North Carolina hikers is located between New Bern and Pollocksville, NC. This color photo includes several cypress trees and a limestone cliff along the river. (Limestone outcrops are very rare along the NC coastal plain). The dominate color in the image is green, contrasted by the brown and tan of the tree trunks.

When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
