A shrimp boat enters Beaufort Inlet after a day at sea. Sea gulls flock behind looking for scraps to eat. The setting sun creates a golden sky. Another hard days work has been completed by these uncelebrated watermen.
This scene was capture while standing next to te rock jetty at Fort Macon State Park. The Beaufor inlet passes between the barrier island of Shackleford and Bogue banks. This deep water passage provides access to various ports located along the Crystal Coast. This eastern North Carolina area has a long commercial fishing tradition.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
