The historic seaport town of Beaufort is one of the oldest communities in North Carolina. Within its city limits many historic homes and buildings are found. Many dating back to the 1700s and 1800s. This old home, flound along Front Street and overlooking Taylor's Creek, has a unique front yard consisting of a blanket of wildflowers. The beautiful golden lawn is made up of Lanceleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata), a member of the Aster family. It must be quite an experience to sit on that second floor porch, looking out over this colorful lawn, beyond the creek and out to the adjacent island.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
