Description
A Greater Scaup (Aythya marila) floats on a calm Lake Mattmuskeet in northeastern North Carolina. This body of water is the largest natural like in North Carolina. With a shallow depth which averages 2 to 3 feet deep, the lake is 18 miles long and 7 miles wide. Much of the land surrounding the lake is a National Wildlife Refuge and is the winter home to a large number of waterfowl species.
