A Great Egret wades in the marsh along the Tideland Trail in the Cedar Point Recreationa Area. Part of the Croatan National Forest, this area includes an estuarine environment addociated with the White Oak River. Wooden bridges take hikers over wetlands area allowing a wonderful view of the marshes and the wildlife found in them. Egrets, herons and rails feed in these wetlands. Such environments also serve as nurseries for a variety of fin and shell fish. This recreational area is located near the towns of Cape Carteret and Swansboro and is a short drive from the seaside village of Emerald Isle, North Carolina
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
