Description
The remains of an old, decaying gas station is found in rural Pamlico county in eastern North Carolina. With its missing front door and boarded up windows, one can imagine this once busy place full of life and merchandise. I'm sure in its heyday local farmers would often gather there, discussing the weather, the prices of tobacco and other crops, as well as life in general. Perhaps the interior was heated with a pot belly stove where customers would gather around while sharing the latest gossip. There is something special about rustic buildings like this.
This black and white photograph was taken on an early March morning. Nearby communities include Oriental, Grantsboro, Arapahoe and Minnosott Beach. The thick fog persisted into the late morning and early afternoon because of the closeness of the Neuse River.
