The beach is a magical place. The sound of the waves against the shore, the smell of salt in the air, the mysterious wonderment of what lies beyond the horizon. A fog bank rolling in off the ocean and an overcast sky dulls the brilliant colors of sunset on a warn February evening at the beach in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Only a hint of warm color is found in the sky and reflected off the wet sand. Beach houses look like muted shadows in the distance as a gentle surf washes up on shore.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
