Artist's Description
A heavy fog rolls in off the Atlantic ocean obscuring the horizon and setting sun. The end of the fishing pier nearly disappears into the mist. Views like this are slowly and surely disappearing from our coasts. They're being replaced by extravagant homes. Beach property that was once accessible by all is slowly become private and off-limits. This beach would be covered with people in "season," during the winter it is nearly empty.
This is the Bogue Inlet Pier, located in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Most of the year the facility is open for fishing and would be covered with people wetting their lines. For a short period each year the pier is closed to the public. This is one of two commercial fishing piers located along the Crystal Coast.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
