Artist's Description

A moss covered fallen log extends into Island Creek in the Croatan National Forest between New Bern and Pollocksville, North Carolina. A hot, humid July evening, the woodlands is a lush green with thick growth. The water level of the little brook is a bit lower than normal. This area is unique to Coastal Carolina as there are some outcroppings of limestone along the stream. A mixed forest, the woods are made up of both evergreen and decideous trees. The Island Creek Walk is one of several hiking trails found in the National Forest.

As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
