Golden afternoon sunlight peeks through the forest canopy along the Neusiok trail near Newport, North Carolina. The dirt path leads the eye toward the back of the forest, disappearing amoung the pine trees in the distance. Part of the Mountains to Sea trail, the Neusiok offers a 26 mile contiguous hiking experience in coastal North Carolina.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
