A small stretch of sand serves as the access to the beach from a private residence on Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Sand fencing on both sides of the short walkway help to keep it open. Located on a barrier island named Bogue Banks, this is the western most community. To the east is the sea side twon of Atlantic Beach. The area is known as the Crystal Coast though also referred to as the Southern Outer Banks.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
