Description
A Down East North Carolina style skiff sits at anchor as a storm approaches in the distance. In this photo the white dingy's bow points to the left of the image. In the background rain can be seen falling on a distant barrier island. Gray-blue storm clouds loom overhead.
This color photograph was taken near Harkers Island North Carolina. The body of water in which the small boat is anchored is Core Sound. Sights like this were once comman along America's coast. Today fewer and fewer local fisherman work the waters commercially. Competition from around the world, coupled with local regulations has made a hard way to make a living even harder. More and more of the coast is covered with "McMansions," large vacation beach houses rather that fish processing plants and commercial marinas.
