Artist's Description
Cypress trees spring from the waters of Island Creek in the Croatan National Forest. This trail, the Island Creek Walk, is located between New Bern and Pollocksville, North Carolina.
This color photograph was made on an overcast day, following several days of rain. The stream is slightly swollen due to the recent weather conditions. An outcrop of limestone juts into the stream from the lower left hand side of the photo. (Exposed limestone is rare in the coastal regions of our state). A variety of Cypress trees rise up above the surface of the water. Reflections of tree trunks and the overhead green canopy reflect on the creek.
About Bob Decker
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
