The Common Day Lily or Ditch Lily, Hemerocallis fulva, was first intorduced to North America in the 19th century as an ornimental plant. Native to Asia, it is a popular decorative plant. But it also has the ability to spread beyond the homestead flowerbed. The flower pictured here was photography in a ditch along a Croatan National Forest access road in Eastern North Carolina.
