A close and personal look at the "bloom" of Pterocaulon pycnostachyum or "Coastal Blackroot" growing on the pine savanna of the Croatan National Forest in eastern North Carolina. Other common names include foxtail and dense-spike, both combined with the term "blackroot." This wildflower can be found throughout the Souteast coast from Louisiana to North Carolina.
