Colorful clouds are reflected on the wet sand of Atlantic Beach along the Southern Outerbanks of North Carolina. This color photo was taken shortly before sunset on a hot, June evening using long-exposure photography techniques. This photograph rated a third place finish in the Scenes from a Beach or Ocean contest in the Scens From a Beach group.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
