Low tide at the beach at Fort Macon State Park reveals an interesting natural abstract. Ripples in the sand, tidal pools and shoals combine to create interesting textures and patterns along the shore. The park is located in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. The first state park to open to the public in NC, it features a Civil War era fort, a nature trail, a visitors center, bath house and a lovely beach. The location is popular with nature lovers, sun worshipers, hikers, mountain bikers, surf fishermen and history buffs. The park also has a reputation as a good place for birdwatching.
