Here is the beach access at the New Bern Street parking area in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. In the upper right hand corner of the image a yellow warning flag can be seen flapping in the wind. The Atlantic Ocean can be seen in the distance.
This is one of several beach access points along the Crystal Coast beaches. Located at the southern end of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, this area is unique in that it's shoreline is south facing. It is also the closest portion of the US East Coast to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream This proximity contributes to its warm, clear waters and mild year round weather.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
