An American Alligator warms its self in the summer sun along a boat ramp in eastern North Carolina. Though gators are common in the freshwaters of coastal NC, they are somewhat shy and secretive. Many locals live their entire lives without ever seeing one. An apex predator, these large reptiles are currently protected in the state. With a growing population a limited hunting season may be introduced soon.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
