In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.

Artist's Description

While exploring the backroads of Pamlico county North Carolina I found this lovely old abandoned house. Judging by the architecture I suspect it may be an 1800s era building. The rustic two-story dwelling has a brick chimney on one end. It appears that there is a single-story addition built onto the rear of the house. The overgrown yard and surrounding trees seem to be encroaching on the structure. Nature attempting to reclaim this property.

I worked up two version of this photograph. One color. One black and white. I may upload the color version at a later date but felt the grayscale version seemed a more appropriate presentation.

Bob Decker

When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
