Description
It is mid-January along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Heavy overcast skies retain the colors of the sunrise later than normal. Aqua-blue water washes up onto the beach. Sea oats help to hold the sand dunes together. A walk along the shore at Fort Macon State park provides a wonderful start to the day.
In a few short months the beaches will be bustling with beachcombers, sun worshipers, swimmers and surf fishermen. During the winter months however, the Carolina shore is empty except for a few hardy souls. On winter mornings like this the people visiting the shore a mostly local residents of Atlantic Beach and surrounding Carteret county, NC
