While sitting in line to board the ferry at Minnesott Beach, North Carolina, a trailer towing an antique car was sitting in the adjacent lane, slightly in front of me. I couldn't resist the opportunity to make a few photographs of the old automobile. Pictured is a 1954 Pontiac Chieftain.
I had spent the last couple of days on a road trip with a friend exploring eastern NC and looking for photographic opportunities. After dropping her off at her home in Pamlico county I spent a bit of time exploring a backroad in search of old bans and abandoned houses before heading home. The shortest, quickest route between our homes is to catch the car ferry that crosses the Neuse river and travels between Minnnesott Beach and Cherry Branch. This old vehicle was my last photographic subject of the day.
I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
