Artist's Description

A green fern rests across a recently charred log in the Croatan National Forest. Fire plays an important role in the longleaf pine savanna ecosystem and without it many exotic plant species would exist here. The Longleaf pine savanna once stretched from Virginia to Florida, the Southeast coast to Texas and is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in North America.

About Bob Decker

Bob Decker

I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: "To boldly go..." My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire...
